Eligibility

The Mitzvah Fund has a sliding scale fee program.  Clients of the Mitzvah Fund are encouraged to assist with payments to offset the costs of required treatments and medications. Often they are asked by us, “What can you afford?” We will work with clients to make treatments affordable. If their income is such that they are completely subsidized, we appreciate any donation to help the next person in need.

We have designed an intake need evaluation form. This will determine whether you and your companion animal is eligible for the Mitzvah Fund's services and resources. We ask for household income verification for the pet owner(s) applying for funding. If the animal is owned by multiple people we ask for proof of income from all owners. Some documents we may request will be needed to verify the following circumstances :

 

  1. State or federally funded welfare program, Food Stamps, WIC.

  2. Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, Disability, Unemployment

  3. Non-commissioned active military

  4. Extreme medical expense, loss of home due to natural disaster, etc.

  5. Pay stub proving income meets state or federal low income or WIC guidelines

 

If for any reason a staff member feels like any type of abuse is occurring to the privilege of utilizing Mitzvah Fund resources, the situation is immediately addressed and properly handled with the owner. 

Information for non-profit organizations: 

In addition to serving the companion animals of seniors in need, a number of the animals receiving assistance are rescues through other non-profit organizations. If you represent a non-profit and have an animal in need, please contact Deb at themitzvahfund1818@gmail.com.
